The Cross-Harbor Tunnel in Hong Kong was reopened on Wednesday at 5:00 a.m。 local time after being closed for two weeks due to severe damage caused by radical protesters, local media reported。 Matthew Cheung, chief secretary for administration of China‘s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on Tuesday that over 800 employees worked day and night for 100 hours to restore the tunnel。 Sixteen toll booths were also fixed and reopened。 The tunnel, an important link connecting Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, was closed on November 13 following violent protests。

CGTN’s Liu Xin visited Nathan Road, one of the busiest streets in Kowloon area, to see how the months-long chaos has hurt the city。 As traces of violent conflict remain, the city strives to maintain its hustle and bustle。 Many shops have reopened since last weekend。 Cars and pedestrians moved smoothly even at major crossroads in the absence of traffic lights which were destroyed by rioters。 Liu Xin commented: “If everyone keeps their own pace and does the right thing, I believe Hong Kong will recover from the nightmare of riots。”
